NDMU President Marylou Yam Selected to Higher Education Power List
The Daily Record Recognizes Dr. Yam as a Top Higher Education Leader in Maryland for Second-Straight Year
Marylou Yam

By: Erik Pedersen, Content Strategy Director

BALTIMORE – The Daily Record has named Notre Dame of Maryland University’s president, Dr. Marylou Yam, to its 2024 Higher Education Power List. The list, chosen by the publication’s editorial team, recognizes influential leaders in Maryland who are helping to guide their institutions in the ever-changing field of higher education.

Appointed as Notre Dame’s 14th president in 2014, Dr. Yam has brought the University to new heights during her 10 years on campus. Consistent with the Going Beyond: Vision 2025 strategic plan, Notre Dame has achieved historic fundraising and endowment totals, record-breaking new student enrollment, accelerated fiscal growth, innovative partnerships and academic programs, and increased visibility in Baltimore and beyond.

NDMU’s Go Beyond campaign, which officially closed this summer, raised over $52.6 million, the highest total in school history. Highlights of that campaign included a $9 million renovation of the Knott Science and Innovation Center, over $14 million raised in support of endowed student scholarships, installation of a new turf field for athletics, and over $3.7 million supporting faculty scholarship and research.

Under Dr. Yam’s leadership, Notre Dame has launched several new academic programs, including the State’s first bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Art Therapy, the first Doctorate in Occupational Therapy program at a private university and only the second program in the State, and the State’s first Master of Physician Assistant Studies program at a private university. NDMU also established new Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner master’s programs in fall 2022, with the first cohorts from those programs set to graduate this December.

NDMU has consistently broken new undergraduate enrollment records during Dr. Yam’s tenure. The University has welcomed historic top-three classes in each of the past two academic years, with Dr. Yam’s strategic direction providing a solid foundation for sustained growth in enrollment.

This is the second-straight year that Dr. Yam has been recognized on The Daily Record’s Higher Education Power List, and it is the third award she has received from the publication in 2024. Dr. Yam was previously selected to the Most Admired CEOs list in September, and she was inducted into The Daily Record’s Circle of Excellence in May after becoming a three-time recipient of the publication’s Top 100 Women award.

Established in 1895, Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) is a private, Catholic institution in Baltimore, Maryland, with the mission to educate leaders to transform the world. Notre Dame has been named one of the best "Regional Universities North" by U.S. News & World Report.
